Economic Development in Northwest Wyoming
Studies indicate that the best location for Data Center projects are areas which have great broadband, moderate climate – not too cold –not too hot and low power costs. In Cody, we have all three plus the benefit of being a great place to live.
Due to the very aggressive local telephone co-op’s (TCT West) investment in fiber networks, our area has tremendous broadband capacity. Tech savvy people understand the terms of a 48 Sonet rings as well as a 10 GBPS IP/MPLS ring. It is also well-connected to (up to OC192) and collocated along the nation’s Western and Midwest Tier 1 fiber rings. What that means to most of us is fast and reliable internet. Download speeds in town range from 4.5 – 6.5 MBPS. This network in addition to the already reliable Optimum and CenturyLink networks provide a very high level of capacity to the community.
So, why build it in Cody?
In a recent study completed by Verizon site selector Joe Sharkey, Cody is the best shovel ready location for the entire northwest quadrant of Wyoming. State incentives to facilitate the development of data centers make Wyoming and Cody a great choice.
Access to markets may seem difficult “off the beaten path”. With daily UPS and Fed Ex delivery and overnight shipping, it makes it feel as though we’re not that far away. With quality highways connecting to Interstate highways a short hour away, overland freight is rarely an issue.
